Lift Modernisation & Project Management
CHALKWELL LODGE
THE AIM
T&D Lift Consultants was appointed to assess three ageing passenger lifts at Chalkwell Lodge and provide the client with independent advice on the most appropriate long-term solution.
Following an assessment of the available options, T&D developed the technical specification and project managed the full modernisation of all three lifts through to completion and handover.

Improved Reliability
Modern equipment replaced ageing and increasingly unreliable components, providing a more dependable lift service.
Energy Efficiency
New motors and control systems are more energy efficient than the original equipment, helping to reduce ongoing running costs.
Parts Availability
The modernised equipment is supported by components available from UK suppliers, making future maintenance and repairs more straightforward.
Long-Term Protection
Rather than continuing to invest in short-term repairs, the client now has three modernised lifts designed to provide reliable service for many years.
THE CHALLENGE
The three passenger lifts at Chalkwell Lodge were originally installed during the late 1950s and 1960s.
As the equipment aged, breakdowns became increasingly frequent and replacement components were becoming obsolete or difficult to obtain.
The client wanted to avoid continued expenditure on short-term repairs and needed a reliable long-term solution that would improve lift performance while ensuring replacement parts and technical support remained readily available in the future.
THE SOLUTION
The detailed specification gave the client a clear and consistent basis on which contractor proposals could be assessed, while reducing the risk of important works being omitted or subsequently treated as additional costs.
T&D then project managed the modernisation of all three lifts through to completion and handover.
This included monitoring the progress of the works, checking that the installation complied with the agreed technical specification and overseeing the testing, commissioning and final handover process.
THE OUTCOME
The completed modernisation provided Chalkwell Lodge with more reliable passenger lifts using modern equipment supported by replacement parts available from UK suppliers.
The modernised lifts have an anticipated serviceable life of approximately 25 years, depending on the maintenance contract and servicing arrangements selected.
